I discovered Mr. K's fabulous arrangements in grade school, and this collection perfectly exemplified his astonishing, sophisticated scorings. I still have the CL775 album, and its exuberant cover art would've looked good on this CD instead of this original ML4241 cover, butIt's the sound that matters, and I quite agree with the other reviewer's observations. The Maestro's clever and humorous and passionate interpretations of musical phrase show his attention to creating emotions with a technique as deft as his concert hall forebears. Listening to the man's musical intellect and joy in music move me still, and in this CD I now hear new subltleties and nuance of instruments playing with each other lost on the vinyl. Composers themselves (e.g., Kern, Rodgers, Porter) wrote Mr. Kostelanetz personal letters commending his understanding of their work, and CD issues of these early recordings affirms his enduring value.I also recommend the CD issue of Kreisler, Rodgers, and Kern's interesting Mark Twain Suite.
